Filing a tax extension is a common strategy for individuals and tax professionals to allow more time for effective tax planning. If you filed an extension, here are some key deadlines to keep on your radar.

Individual Taxpayers:

October 15, 2024: This is the extended deadline for filing your 2023 individual tax returns if you requested an extension earlier this year. Complete your return and submit any payments owed by this date to avoid penalties. If you filed an extension, please have your tax documents to our office no later than September 15, 2024, to ensure we have sufficient time to complete the returns.

Business Owners:

September 16, 2024: For partnerships and S corporations, this is the extended deadline for filing your 2023 tax returns. Remember to provide Schedule K-1s to your partners or shareholders.

If you filed an extension, we have asked that you have your tax documents to our office no later than August 26, 2024, to ensure we have sufficient time to complete the returns.

October 15, 2024: If you’re a C corporation that filed for an extension, your deadline to submit the 2023 tax return is approaching. Make sure to complete all required forms and calculations accurately. If you filed an extension, please have your tax documents to our office no later than September 15, 2024, to ensure we have sufficient time to complete the returns.

Trust & Estates:

September 30, 2024: This is the extended deadline for filing your 2023 trust or estate tax returns if you filed an extension earlier this year. Please make sure you have everything with your accountant as soon as possible. If you filed an extension, we have asked that you have your tax documents to our office no later than August 26, 2024, to ensure we have sufficient time to complete the returns.

Estimated Tax Payments:

September 16, 2024: If you must make quarterly estimated tax payments, the third installment for the 2024 tax year is due on this date. Make sure to calculate your estimated tax liability correctly to avoid underpayment penalties.
