DANIEL BAIRD, CPA, Partner
Daniel Baird, CPA, is a Tax Manager for Haynie & Company. He attended Weber State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1992 and a Master’s Degree in Professional Accountancy in 1993. Daniel joined Haynie & Company promptly after graduating and passed the CPA exam in 1994. While at Weber State University, he was a sprinter on the track team and broke several school records, as well as several stadium records at other universities. He is a member of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Daniel contributes a broad range of accounting and tax services to individual clients, and both privately held and publicly held business clients. He has served clients in retail, wholesale, manufacturing, construction, and real estate. Daniel has extensive experience in all areas of taxation, especially with partnership, corporation, and multi-state issues.
Daniel and his wife Kristina have eight children. Staying active in the community is important to Daniel, as being a good neighbor and father is a high priority for a balanced life. He stays involved with his children’s school programs and is active in his church. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys playing the piano. He also enjoys participating in sports activities and traveling with his wife and children.
KENT M CHRISTENSEN, CPA, Partner
Kent Christensen, CPA, is a Partner of Haynie & Company, as well as partner in charge of the Corporate office in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has over 18 years of experience in public and private accounting which includes a wide range of tax and accounting services for individuals and businesses. Kent graduated from the University of Utah with his Bachelor of Science degree in December of 1999. He passed the CPA exams in November of 2001. Kent is also a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) through the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) . And is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA). Kent also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Accountancy of Utah State University.
Kent is well qualified in corporate income taxation, partnership taxation, individual taxation, and related planning and business organization. Kent’s experience includes consultation on a wide array of issues including multi-state taxation, fixed asset depreciation, alternative minimum tax, methods of accounting differences between book and tax, forms of doing business, mergers and acquisitions ,IRS interface and resolution, retirement planning and year-round tax planning, and all other phases of consulting and compliance.
Kent has been married for 16+ years. He and his wife have four kids, and a spoiled mini schnauzer. His hobbies include coaching kids sports, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Fantasy Football.
DAVID R PETERSON, CPA, Partner
Dave Peterson, CPA, began with Haynie & Company as a student intern in 1975 and excelled. After he graduated from the University of Utah in 1977, Haynie & Company offered Dave a full partnership in the firm. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, with minors in math and computer science.
As a member of both American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA), Dave is active in the professional accounting community. He has chaired UACPA’s Public Relations Committee, and served on their Political Action Committee. He is also part of the Private Companies Practice Session of the AICPA.
As a small business specialist, David R. Peterson fills the unique needs of smaller companies with services ranging from tax planning to the creation of accounting systems. The management advisory services he provides are especially useful for fast-growing, start-up, or troubled businesses.
Dave provides further consultation as an employer/employee relations specialist, utilizing the Predictive Index. With this proven personality evaluation tool, Dave assists clients in evaluating employees’ strengths, and further counsels clients on strategies for increasing effectiveness and overall motivation.
Internationally, Dave is a past member of “Choice Humanitarian,” a charity that provides training, service, and goods to villages in Mexico, Bolivia, Vietnam, Nepal, and Kenya. Locally, Dave’s community service includes membership on the Downtown Planning Committee and the Planned Gifts Committee of Primary Children’s Hospital. Former member of the Alzheimer’s Board of Utah. Currently serving on the Executive Committee of Pioneer Memorial Company Board of Directors. He is also serving on the Board of Tanner Humanities Center for World leaders guest speakers. He is an active University of Utah Crimson Club member and a past president and past treasurer of the Ute Little League Football program. He enjoys art, electronic gadgetry, fast cars, and stamp collecting. Dave is married, and has five children and seventeen grandchildren.
DAVID W PRITCHETT, CPA, Partner
David W. Pritchett, CPA, is Partner for Haynie & Company. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and received his Certified Public Accountant designation (CPA) in 1984 and has been active in public accounting since that time. David was previously shareholder and President of Pritchett, Siler & Hardy until they merged with Haynie & Company in January of 2018. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA), and the AICPA’s Tax Section.
David is currently involved with tax filings of corporations, individuals, pass-thru entities, and other related entities with federal and state taxing authorities. He is also active in Individual and Small Business planning and consulting.
David has three children and six grandchildren (and counting). His hobbies include camping with family, ATV riding, and sport shooting.
HAL ROSEN, CPA, Partner
Hal Rosen, CPA, graduated from Brigham Young University in Accounting. During his 40+ year as an accountant, he has spent time with a Big Eight international accounting firm, a shareholder in local CPA firms, as well as financial and executive positions with companies. Hal has taught accounting software classes and is a firm believer in properly accounting for the activities of businesses. In 2015 and 2016, Hal was one of Insightful Accountant’s Top 100 ProAdvisors. He spent part of his career as an entrepreneur. Hal has been involved in the operations of small companies and has co-founded more than twelve companies in various industries.
Hal has experience in many industries. These industries include scientific equipment manufacturing, coal mining, tool and mine supply distribution, real estate development and financing, employee benefits, and a travel agency. Hal is also an Advanced QuickBooks Certified Pro Advisor, a member of the Intuit Trainer/Writer Network, member of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA), and has a thorough knowledge of QuickBooks. His professional practice is based on businesses that use QuickBooks. Hal has been using the program since the release as a DOS based program in the early 1990’s.
Hal and his wife, Diane, enjoy spending time with the beautiful family they have created. Hal and Diane are parents to 4 children and grandparents of 14. When Hal is not busy with family, he enjoys traveling, reading, and road cycling in his spare time.
RICHARD E SILER, CPA, Partner
Richard Siler, CPA, graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He worked as a sole tax practitioner until joining Pritchett, Siler & Hardy, where he was a shareholder, director, and tax officer for more than 30 years. Richard joined Haynie & Company as part of the Pritchett, Siler & Hardy merge in January 2018.
Richard’s expertise includes tax consultation, planning and preparation for individuals, businesses, corporations, and trusts. He consults and assists clients in dealing with state and federal taxing authorities in relation to estates and trusts, partnerships, and corporations.
Richard and his wife, Lynette, have three children and enjoy traveling, skiing, and spending time with family.
PATSY STEWART, CPA, Partner
Patsy Stewart, CPA, is Partner at Haynie & Company in the corporate office. Patsy attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. After attending Brigham Young, she began working at Haynie & Company and passed the CPA exam shortly thereafter. Patsy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA).
Patsy has over 30 years of experience providing consulting, taxation, and certain assurance services to her clientele. She has served clients in various industries, which include, but are not limited to; retail, wholesale, manufacturing, construction, and professional service firms. In addition, she specializes in providing reviewed financial statements and compilations to her clients.
In her spare time, Patsy enjoys working out and trying to stay fit. She also enjoys watching various sports on television with her only son.
DALE WESTENSKOW, CPA, Partner
W. Dale Westenskow, CPA, attended both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, graduating from the University of Utah in 1981 receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. Dale joined Haynie & Company in 2016, through a merger of Robison, Hill & Company in February 2016. Prior to that Dale was a Shareholder and Employee of Robison, Hill & Company since 1981. He passed the CPA exam in 1983 and has been licensed to practice in the state of Utah since that time. He is certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) since July 2010. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) since 1984; Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA) since 1983; and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) since August 1983.
Dale has extensive experience in taxation and planning for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates. Since 1983 he has worked in forensic accounting in bankruptcy cases, assisting the courts and trustees administer difficult situations and cases. Through his career he has audited employee benefit plans specializing in multi-employer collectively bargained plans.
Dale has been married 40+ years and has 4 children and 13 grandchildren (and growing). He enjoys camping, fishing, nature, working with wood building things, and volunteers at the Salt Lake County Jail, helping the women with life skills and motivation to improve their circumstances.
AARON ABENDROTH, Manager
Aaron Abendroth is a graduate of Brigham Young University with Master and Bachelor degrees in Accounting and Information Systems. Aaron joined Haynie & Company in 2011 and works in the Salt Lake City, Utah office. Before joining Haynie, Aaron was a Partner at Baird, Blackburn & Abendroth, PC, and Karren Hendrix Stagg & Associates, PC in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA).
Aaron has extensive tax and accounting experience with small to large corporations, S-corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships, in such industries as manufacturing, real estate, financial services as well as others. Aaron works closely with Valuation issues and has valued over 100 companies. Aaron has specific experience in dealing with the IRS and State Tax Commissions, valuation issues for gifting and estate tax returns, tax consequences for merger and acquisition and captive insurance company setup and audits.
JULIE A BODILY, CPA, Manager
Julie Bodily, CPA, graduated from the University of Utah where she received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1997. She worked for Pritchett, Siler & Hardy for 23 years before they merged with Haynie & Company in 2018. She practices in the area of tax accounting and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA).
Julie has worked in all areas of tax preparation including individual, corporate, partnership and trusts. She also has experience in tax planning, payroll taxes, reporting stock and options transactions, and IRS correspondence. She has helped clients in areas of construction/development, manufacturing, real estate, and medical accounting.
Julie has lived in Utah her entire life, is married with two daughters and one son, and has a 90 pound Bernedoodle puppy named Bruce. She loves to sing, watch musicals with her daughters, and go to the beach with her family.
MARY L HANSEN, CPA, Manager
Mary Hansen, CPA, is a tax manager for Haynie & Company. Mary attended the University of Utah, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2008, and with Master of Accounting in 2010. She passed the CPA exam in 2012 and has been a licensed CPA since February 2012. Mary has been practicing in accounting for 9+ years and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA).
Mary has served both individual and business clients in various industries including real estate, construction, and manufacturing. She has experience in assisting clients with tax planning, like-kind exchange transactions, financial statement accounting, and multi-state tax issues.
Mary and her husband, Alan, have three grown sons, two daughter-in-laws, and one grandbaby. Mary enjoys spending family time with them hiking, reading, traveling, and watching movies. She also values helping others in the community and has volunteered alongside her husband teaching self-reliance and English classes to refugees and immigrants.
HEIDI M HAWKINS, Manager
Heidi Hawkins Burton is a tax manager and has worked for Haynie & Company for over 10 years, beginning her career as an intern while attending the University of Utah where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science double major in Accounting and Marketing. Why both Accounting and Marketing? Well, in Heidi’s words, it shows she can use both sides of her brain. She can analyze problems and be creative with solutions!
Heidi has a passion for helping business owners manage and grow their business and personal financial well-being. With a strong accounting and tax background, Heidi provides her clients with expert advice, professionalism, responsiveness and peace of mind.
Heidi is very passionate about health and fitness. In her spare time, she hikes mountain peaks worldwide, competes in trail running races, and does anything else fitness.
MICHAEL S JACHIM, Manager
Michael Jachim attended Park University graduating with a Bachelors Degrees in Accounting and Business Management in 1995. He has worked in public accounting for 20 plus years. Prior to working in public accounting he served in the United States Air Force for ten years in the Accounting and Finance field.
Mike specializes in small business accounting and tax, specifically in the construction industry.
In his spare time he enjoys golfing, camping and College football with his family and friends.
MICHAEL D MCLESKEY, CPA, Manager
Michael McLeskey, CPA, attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 2008 as well as his Master’s degree in Professional Accountancy with an emphasis in Taxation in 2009. Michael joined Haynie & Company’s tax department in 2009 and passed the CPA exam in 2010. In addition to being a CPA, Michael is also recognized as a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA). As a graduate student, Michael was the Attorney/ CPA Foundation’s grand prize winner in its annual essay contest. Michael has also been a volunteer instructor with the Utah Non-profits Association on multiple occasions. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA) as well as the National Association of Certified Valuators & Analysts (NACVA)
Michael has been practicing accounting for 10 years and specializes in multistate taxation, partnership taxation, entity selection, S-corporation tax planning and compliance issues, IRS representation and resolution, high net worth individual taxation, valuation issues, as well as small business advisory and consulting.
Michael and his wife Kara have four children. Michael loves spending time with his family, staying connected with his community, and being involved in his church. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, guitar, piano, running, or relaxing with a good book.
BRENT PETERSON, CPA, Manager
Brent Peterson, CPA, is a Tax Manager for Haynie & Company. He has over 20-years of experience in public accounting. He obtained his Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in accounting from Southern Utah University. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA) and has served on the Primary Children’s Hospital Planned Giving Committee.
Brent has extensive experience in tax compliance work in the corporate, pass-through entities, trust, and individual areas. Brent specializes in tax planning and consulting for small and medium sized business owners. His goal is to help his clients pay the least amount in taxes legally required.
ERIK F SODERBERG, CPA, Manager
Erik Soderberg, CPA, received a Bachelors in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah. Erik joined Haynie & Company in 2007 and is a tax manager in the Salt Lake City office. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA).
Erik’s experience includes consulting with business owners to assist with entity set-up and structure planning, employee and manager issues, partner disputes, partner buyouts, cash flow planning, financial statement understanding, budgeting, and growth planning. He works with several real estate builders and contractors and provides support in preparing the percentage of completion and work in progress schedules. Erik’s other areas of experience include assisting with sales & use tax issues, QuickBooks and Sage program assistance, IRS audits and correspondence, dental consulting, working with trusts, and tax planning.
Outside of work, Erik enjoys spending time with his family, biking, and cooking.
